The voices of people with lived experience of domestic abuse sit at the heart of everything the Domestic Abuse Commissioner does.
Our voices matter is the Commissioner’s hub for people with lived experience – bringing together opportunities to share your views and showing how people with lived experience are making change.

“It’s been amazing to connect, to hear commonality, and to meet so many courageous people trying to make it better.”
How to get involved and deliver change
Victims and survivors often share with the Commissioner that they want to use their experience to make a difference for other people impacted by domestic abuse. The Commissioner is also regularly approached by government departments, researchers, and other organisations who want to engage people with lived experience so they can understand what needs to improve in the response to domestic abuse.
The Our voices matter newsletter brings together opportunities to share your expertise with a wide range of organisations working to tackle domestic abuse, and to directly impact change.
The types of opportunities include surveys, one-to-one interviews, roundtables and ongoing board-level representation. We assess all opportunities we share to ensure we feel they are safe and purposeful for people with lived experience of domestic abuse.
The newsletter also includes updates from the Commissioner, details of upcoming webinars and events, and news related to domestic abuse.
If you are a professional wanting to share an opportunity with Our voices matter members, please use this form. For more information on delivering effective lived experience engagement, visit our resources page.
Share your story
Sharing your experience of domestic abuse can help people to recognise the signs, challenge stereotypes and provide encouragement to other people who have experienced domestic abuse.
Through Our voices matter, we want to reflect the changes people with lived experience of domestic abuse want to see. If you have a message of hope, or a story of when you have used your voice to make a change, however small, we want to hear from you.
If you’re interested in writing for us, please get in touch. We’ve created some guidance to help you get started and to give an overview of what we would need from you.
